Betfair the online betting exchange has today launched a product that will allow anyone to compare odds between Betfair and traditional online bookmakers.

‘Betfair Everywhere‘ is a Google Chrome add-on that uses keyword technology to overlay Betfair’s odds on any website you choose, allowing you to compare odds live.

Launched in line with their latest marketing campaign the product is likely to be seen as controversial given it’s ability to overlay it’s own odds on rivals websites, which in the majority of cases will highlight that Betfair have better odds available.

What’s more the tool sits at the top of Google Chrome allowing users to place bets through their Betfair account seamlessly as the betting slip is pre filled.

How Betfair Works

The popular online betting exchange works by providing a platform which allows punters to bet for and against an event. This means individuals set the odds and the markets change as odds are offered. By offering such a platform anyone can effectively become a bookmaker and offer odds on an event through the site and as users compete to offer odds much like in the real world this introduces competition and allows the exchange to offer better odds.

The Betfair user then pays a 5% commission on any winnings and this is how Betfair make their money. In typical markets where millions of pounds are traded there is big money to be made by the exchange.

Will it be stopped?

Whether the tool will be allowed to continue remains to be seen, it is not yet known if sites can block the tool from being used on their site. However even if this is the case there are still plenty of other uses for the tool.

As the season progresses so will the interest in the relegation odds especially for the Premier League.

This however is where a lot of occasional punters make their first mistake. By betting on relegation odds later in the season the return is very much reduced.

The second mistake made by those betting on the relegation market occurs when punters bet early on in the season that those promoted the prior season will go down. Again the returns are very much reduced and you may even find that any bet you do place will be at such low odds that there is a large risk vs the reward.

The best way to bet on this market is to look at the teams that only just managed to survive the previous season.
