The offers usually run in a similar format to the following:
1. Bet on the 1st Goalscorer in the Liverpool v Man Utd match (for example) and if your player doesn’t score the first goal but scores second we will refund your bet.

Or
2. Bet on the First Goalscorer in the Aston Villa v Bolton match (for example) and if your player doesn’t score the first goal but scores any other time durin the match we will refund your bet.

Method:
In order to take part in these offers without risking your own money the following approach can be followed, whereby if done as explained you will be left with a chance to receive a refund of your initial stake should the offer conditions be met (in this case your selected first goalscorer goes on to score the second goal (type 1 offer) or any other goal (type 2 offer).

Back and lay a first goalscorer (for example Rooney 6.0/6.0) where there is a close match (as in the odds offered by the bookmaker are close or if possible the same as the lay odds at the betting exchange), this is important so to minimise any loss on the qualifying bet. If your selection goes on to score the second (type 1) or a goal but not the first in the match (type 2) you would be refunded your bet stake.  By laying your bet on a betting exchange you are effectively cancelling out your bet but will still have the option to gain a refund for effectively nothing.

Althouh this will not happen every time, by making wise selections where odds are as close as possible it should be easy to make a profit from these offers over time, thus making your bookmaker accounts usefull even once you have used the initial free bet offered when opening an account for the first time.
